My name is Billy, and I am artist working between Wales, the Forest of Dean and East Asia. I am deeply interested in how we can curate spaciousness in an increasingly busy and overstimulated world where record numbers of people are facing burnout. I do this through a practice I call ambient dance, which affects how I make theatre, choreograph, facilitate, take photos, make music, bake, garden, brew coffee, go for walks. For me, its a life philosophy of soft noticing. I first coined the term during my 2024 MA in Expanded Dance Practice at London Contemporary Dance School, and since then I’ve been extremely grateful for all the voices and dances that have shaped its continual journey. It feels like a forest that grows through many touches.
Current research project:
The Poetics of Hands Meeting
An exploration of how our hands are sites of craft, connection and history and how, with time, they can meet and tend to the world and people they encounter.
This work has been funded by Arts Council of Wales through a development period in Aberystwyth with Dr. Lara Kipp, a research residency at The Dance House in Cardiff and a performance premiere at Dance Blast in Abergavenny on 2nd August 2026.
We then toured to work with workshops and performances across Taiwan and Japan in Summer 2026. We are now looking to build the work into a 2028 tour and are seeking partners in Wales, the UK and internationally.
